Front-End Web Developer

The Front-End Web Developer content introduces students to front-end, or client-side, web development technologies, including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Participants learn how to make interactive applications that run inside a web browser and can communicate with a web server running remotely. Once complete, participants will have the basic skills necessary to work as a front-end web developer.

This online program is taught by Condensed Curriculum International, an educational partner working with the University of Arkansas. The Front-End Web Developer program is designed to prepare students to function as web developers in multiple technical, business, and healthcare settings. Web developers serve roles with job titles such as Web Site Developers, Web Designers, and Web Masters. Students are eligible for an optional externship with a local employer after successful course completion.

Program Objectives

After completing this program, learners will be able to:

  • Apply understanding of the World Wide Web, web content creation, and web content delivery
  • Select a web hosting provider and use good practices for testing web content on multiple browsers
  • Create a basic website using HTML, CSS, styles, HTML elements, links, video, and images
  • Work with fonts, text blocks, lists, and tables to create desired elements in a basic website
  • Work with internal and external links to customize a website
  • Work with colors, images, and multimedia to customize a basic website
  • Install and configure JavaScript
  • Apply an understanding of dynamic websites and HTML5 applications
  • Use basic JavaScript syntax including conditional statements and loops to develop web applications
  • Use basic JavaScript syntax including arrays, array methods, strings, and expressions
  • Use functions and functional programming in JavaScript
  • Use JavaScript objects, prototype properties, and objects as namespaces to avoid name conflicts, and create anonymous objects
  • Use HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript to develop client applications

Certification Opportunities

After completing this program, learners will have the opportunity to take a leading national or industry-recognized certification exam forentry-level employment in this fast-growing field.

Optional Volunteer Externship Opportunity

Learners who complete this program are eligible to participate in an optional volunteer externship opportunity with a local company, agency, or organization whose work aligns with this area of study in order to gain valuable hands-on experience.

As learners progress through their eLearning program, an Externship Coordinator will reach out to coordinate placement.

Note: Additional documentation including health records, immunizations, drug screening, criminal background checks, etc., may be required by the externship facility.
