This course introduces learners to the fundamentals of electronics assembly and packaging, with a focus on soldering processes used in modern circuit board manufacturing. Students explore how electronic components are mechanically and electrically connected to printed circuit boards (PCBs) using solder alloys and Surface Mount Technology.
The course emphasizes foundational concepts, including solder materials, joining methods, Printed Circuit Board structure, and Surface Mount Technology workflows. Learners gain practical awareness of tools, equipment, safety considerations, and quality principlesused in electronics manufacturing environments. Through interactive content, applied examples, and knowledge checks, students build skills that support entry-level roles in electronics and advanced manufacturing.
By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
- Explain the basic soldering process used to assemble electronic components onto printed circuit boards.
- Differentiate between soldering, brazing, and welding based on temperature, materials, and application.
- Identify common solder alloy elements and explain how alloy composition affects melting temperature and performance.
- Describe the structure and function of printed circuit boards (PCBs) in electronic assemblies.
- Explain the principles of Surface Mount Technology (SMT) and how components are mounted using reflow soldering.
- Identify common tools, equipment, and materials used in manual and SMT soldering processes.
- Apply basic safety, cleanliness, and quality practices appropriate for electronics assembly environments.
