Demystifying Dyslexia Intervention Part 2
Speech-Language Pathologists are involved in the diagnosis and treatment of dyslexia in both public schools and private practice. These continuing education activities are designed to give a basic educational overview on dyslexia. The myths and facts, definition of dyslexia and a brief historical frame of reference on dyslexia will lay a foundation for the day. In addition, evaluation instruments will be discussed. Tests that assess reading skills such as: decoding, spelling, reading fluency, comprehension and vocabulary will be presented. Billable and applicable speech and language tests, as well as International Classification of Diseases (ICD) billing and treatment codes will be presented. Basic treatment activities to incorporate within treatment to address the five pillars of reading instruction (phonological awareness, decoding, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension) will be presented. Webinar Part One Speech-Language Pathologists are involved in the diagnosis and treatment process, especially within early intervention programs. This continuing education course gives a basic educational overview on dyslexia. The history of dyslexia are reviewed. Signs and symptoms of dyslexia are identified.
Webinar Part Two
During this continuing education course, assessments for dyslexia are presented and discussed. Intervention ideas and resources are provided.Learning Objectives

- Participants will be able to develop an appropriate battery of tests for a dyslexia evaluation.
- Participants will be able to incorporate reading activities into a therapy session to address reading skills.
Prior Learning
This noncredit course is best suited for Speech-Language Pathologists looking for continuing education activities. Additionally, to ensure success, students should:
- Be comfortable reading and understanding English, as all materials are provided in English.
- Have basic computer skills, including navigating the internet, downloading/uploading files, installing software, and using applications like Microsoft Word.
